Your Tax Dollars at Work

At this very moment six City of Milwaukee DPW trucks and several DPW workers are tearing out flowers and preparing planters on Kilbourn between Broadway and Water for the winter.

Not two months ago just as many trucks were putting plants in the very same place.

With high taxes being such an issue in the city, don't you think some fiscal genius/horticulturalist might come along and suggest that low-maintenance shrubbery and a little mulch would be a viable alternative?

Hate to break it to you, but those aren't your tax dollars at work. While the city workers do that job, the city is reimbursed by the people who request those flowers, the greater milwaukee committee (I think it is).

Nice try, but misinformed.

Or, a tax give-away to the the Christian faith for decorating the city to their liking for Christmas. You'd think true conservatives would say, "Screw the light bills and the costs of putting up trees and evergreen all over the city. Let the Christians celebrate their holiday on their own dime..."

Funny thing is, I love the city Xmas decorations, the parade and all the trappings in the malls, and make a special trip with my girls to see them every year. Worth the tax dollars to me, but I wonder how the other 20% of the population feels about it?

How about this? I'll give up my guilty pleasure for you to save your tax dollars and my friends don't have to suffer another year of having someone else's religion stuffed in their children's faces.

Trade???
